We’ve all moaned about the price of a pint sometimes.  Whether it’s a convenient watering hole whilst waiting for a train, or that late-night bar at the end of an evening… it’s a shock to the wallet we’d rather be without.  Still, things could be worse…

According to financial analysts at Lloyds bank, the humble pint is likely to cost a staggering £11.50 a pint by 2040 (based on how costs have risen since 1914).  Apparently the price of a pint has risen 20-fold (about 2,000%) over the last 4 decades.  Better get them in whilst it’s still a bit lower then!

At least a pint costs a fair bit less in the UK than many other places around the world (believe it or not).  Take a look at some of the worst offenders here – with Greenland and Norway topping the chart at over £7 per pint!

Thankfully, for every over-priced destination there’s a bargain out there.  Take a look at this handy guide to pick next year’s holiday spot with a sub-£1 pint cost.  Let’s raise a glass to Tajikistan (wherever that is) for averaging just 30p a pint!

If you’re not keen on chartering a flight to lands unknown in search of a low-cost beverage, then maybe it’s time to go DIY and brew your own.  Have a play with our cost saving calculator on the homepage to see how much you could save each year.  If you need a painful reminder how much a pint costs near you, take a look at the list here (it was compiled last year, so may be a little optimistic now).

So next time you’re shaking those last few coins out for a fresh pint, just remember your options… we don’t all need to be slaves to a £4.50 pint in central London.
